Obligatory End of Year Profundity
We just got back from a few days back home in Scotland. Being away for six months affects your senses in strange ways. What were previously everyday things that you either took for granted or stopped noticing after a while come back into acute focus.
Like pulling away from my old house in the car for the first time in months and instantly noticing and then remembering the precise timing and sequence of the subtle bumps, undulations and drain covers in the first 50 yards of road. Or roadsigns that I never even remembered having existed but which I instantly noticed had either been replaced or minimally changed.
