Technology Death Spiral

That last post about the PC's high water mark having been reached (probably passed, more like) got me thinking a lot about product lifecycles and obsolescence this weekend. I got to thinking about different technologies and the different stages they've reached, and the likelihood of them falling completely out of use.

Then I got the idea of listing them out, but thought that would be boring. So, I came up an inverted take on the famous Gartner Hype Cycle infographic.

This is very, very first draft and probably wrong on many levels. Feel free to pull it apart, mock or suggest improvements.

UPDATE : OK, so this is a pile of crap. I did say it was a first draft. I'm confusing adoption and penetration with hype. The Gartner Hype Cycle doesn't do that, this chart is the bastard spawn of Gartner's thinking and the classic technology adoption bell curve. Since there is definitely hype that surrounds products near the end of their lives, both positive and negative, I'll try to find some time to spin a chart out that models that, badly.
